OPEN POSITION - GRAPHIC DESIGNER (PT-CONTRACT)
2026
Y S D M studio is currently looking for a contract graphic designer to work on small publications, website design, creative studio identity, and visual & design asset management. We are seeking an independent designer to engage with on a temporary contract either project-based or hourly. This individual would collaborate on a series of graphic design initiatives as our practice engages in larger-scope projects.
Scope of Work
Publication Design & Associated Websites
• Design and produce two small-format publications from concept through print-ready files, including editorial layout, typography, and image editing.
• Design and build (or direct the build of) an associated website for each publication, maintaining visual and tonal consistency across print and digital formats
Creative Studio Identity
• Develop a comprehensive visual identity system for a YSDM creative studio initiative, including naming support if needed, logo design, typographic system, color palette, and a concise set of brand guidelines for ongoing use
Visual & Digital Asset Management
• Conduct a systematic inventory of YSDM’s existing graphic, photographic, and digital resources — including drawings, renderings, and archival imagery
• Organize and structure these assets in a clear, navigable system for internal use and in preparation for an updated firm website
• Collaborate with the team on the selection and sequencing of portfolio content
Most importantly, we seek someone who can contribute to a positive work environment, who maintains professionalism and patience in high-level work. The right candidate is willing to work as a team, follow instructions carefully and attentively, and be a good collaborator.
Open date: March 15th
Application Period: Open until filled
Duration: Project-Based tbd
Hours per Week: Project-Based tbd

Y S D M is the collaborative studio
of Yoshihiro Sergel & Diana Mangaser,
currently based in Newburgh, NY.
Our practice imagines design as a prismatic lens in which we integrate spatial awareness, architectural sensibility, and aesthetics into the structure of everyday environments we immerse ourselves and invite others to engage in.
Our work aims to mediate the oft divisive disciplinary separation between the speculative yet generative exercises of theoretical inquiry and the immediacy of praxis by undertaking the task of seeing such speculations through to built form.
By selecting to operate from a ground-up, environmentally, economically, and socially conscious framework, we leverage constraints as part of a framework from which we continuously develop our position and conceptual lines of study.
As of late, our interest lies in tea culture; intersections between cultural/traditional materials and methods with contemporary forms; what a regenerative architecture may come to be.
